Education

Miss Elwell began her undergraduate studies at Columbia College, Columbia University (NYC, USA) with a degree in biological sciences and completed her medical degree at The University of Cambridge and Imperial College School of Medicine. She completed her neurosurgical training on the North Thames Neurosurgical London Rotation and gained further specialist training in complex spinal surgery as a Central London Senior Spinal Fellow. She has received the British Association of Spinal Surgeons President Travelling Fellowship and the International Group for Advancement in Spinal Science Fellowship (IGASS).

Miss Elwell also is actively involved in medical education and is an author of eight medical textbooks, including "Neurosurgery: The Essential Guide to the Oral and Clinical Neurosurgical Exam" (Second Edition, 2023).

She was awarded and serves as an External Examiner for Imperial College School of Medicine, London and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Singapore. In 2025, she was awarded FRCP from The Royal College of Physicians.

Research

Her research includes head and spinal injury, spinal degenerative disease, and spinal tumours.
